Configuring Tasks

A Task combines a trigger with work to perform. Its configuration has tabs for Trigger, Action, Output, Filter, and History.

In this article you will learn how to configure, test, and inspect a Task

Create a Task

  1. Open Admin >> Workflow and click Add in Tasks.
  2. Enter a clear Description. Leave Active selected only when the task is ready to run.
  3. On Trigger, choose the Object and Trigger Type: Scheduler, Webhook, or Manual.
  4. Complete the settings shown for that trigger. For a scheduled task, set its recurrence and starting time. For a query-based trigger, enter the command and decide whether it should run only when records are found.
  5. Open Action and choose the action Type. Complete its relevant settings, such as an HTTP URL, SFTP destination, stored procedure command, or update values.
  6. Set an export format or template when the action needs file content.
  7. Open Output and select the message or delivery option, if needed. Complete the settings shown for that option.
  8. Add conditions on Filter if the task should apply only to matching records.
  9. Click Save.

Test and inspect a Task

  1. Open the saved task from the Tasks list.
  2. Click Run to start a test run. Confirm the prompt after checking that the configured action can safely run with the selected data.
  3. Open History to inspect success or failure and select Details for a run.
  4. On the Workflow page, review the task's last run, next run, and active state.

Note Run executes the configured task and can call an external destination or change data. Use a safe test task and suitable test records before running it.

If a run fails, inspect History first, then use the Workflow page's Log shortcut for related integration messages. See Checking Workflow Runs.
